Monday Night Soaring Day 253

The race last night was quite a bit of fun.  There were 13 racers.  It was a combination of weak ridge lift and moderate thermals with moderate turbulence.  I hadn’t really planned to fly the ridge as I considered the wind at about 11 kph to be too weak.  When I was about to enter my first thermal I noticed someone flying the ridge so I decided to follow after porpoising the thermal.  It could have been a mistake.  I will be curious to examine the winner’s flight track tonight (Eric Praznovsky as usual).

I got a bit worried about altitude about 25% of the way on the final leg.  I finally got a decent thermal about 500m AGL and climbed to final glide.  I placed fifth in the race.
